Marlin Lodge on Benguerra Island in Mozambique offers unique accommodation, fine dining and world class aquatic activities.
Mozambique > Benguerra Island
Overview
Marlin Lodge is situated on Benguerra Island and sits on the edge of the island overlooking beautiful Flamingo Bay. Marlin Lodge has 3 Executive suites and 17 Luxury beach chalets, all of which has been recently rebuilt. All chalets have stretching sea views and large glass sliding doors leading onto private verandas.
Chalets at Marlin Lodge have tall thatched roofs with sliding doors opening up to a private veranda giving you extended views over the white beach and tranquil turquoise waters. From these elevated verandas you can choose to spend days reading in your hammock or meditating in plush deck chairs. Rooms are spacious with high ceilings and luxurious African, autumn and ocean inspired decor. The room flows from a lounge area towards an open-plan bedroom and through to a large bathroom.
Backdoors open onto enclosed patio with an outside shower. All of the chalets have private boardwalks that directly lead onto the beach or rockery. From here you can go for a swim in the sea at high tide, but during low tide the sea pulls back for a few kilometers. This is the perfect time to relax at the lodge’s swimming pool. The overall feeling is one of unpretentious luxury and service. The new lodge is beautifully restored with thatched roofs, elevated wooden decks and red brick walls. Perfect for romantic getaways, honeymoons or for those wanting to enjoy a stress-free environment.
There are loads of other activities you can partake in and we highly recommend a day trip to Pansy Island where you can tuck into a picnic lunch. Another highlight is snorkeling at 2 Mile Reef where you can feast your eyes on 2000 fish species and 100 coral species. If conditions permit you might also have a chance to swim in “The Aquarium”. Marlin Lodge’s catamaran will take deep sea divers out to sea, but for this excursion major diving courses are recommended.

Luxury Beach ChaletThe Luxury chalets are beautifully decorated in creams and oceanic blues, with touches of African deco. They're open-plan with large glass sliding-doors that lead out onto a private verandah with deck chairs and a hammock. The lounge has plenty of comfortable seating space, a well stocked mini bar (for your own account) and tea & coffee making facilities. In the summer months, the ceiling fan and air-conditioning are an extra luxury. |

Executive Beach SuiteThe Executive suites are very similar to the Luxury chalets although they're slightly larger and have four poster King size beds. The colours are also different; they're decorated in Autumn shades rather than the ocean blues. The ceilings are much higher, and the rooms don't have ceiling fans – but they do have air-conditioning. An additional feature which an Executive suite has is a second verandah. Guests also receive sherry and snacks on arrival. |

Location
Due to its prime location on the East African coast, Mozambique became a significant trading post for gold, ivory and later slaves between the 16th and 19th centuries. Civil war followed the end of Portuguese rule in 1975, but since 1992 the Mozambican government has set about transforming the country into a modern economy. Now a stable democracy, Mozambique remains little explored and the country's spectacular natural treasures are one of the world's best-kept secrets.
