Each of the thatched chalets is situated within meters of the beach; offering en-suite bathroom, outdoor shower, and a veranda complete with hammock for watching the world go by.

Fresh, seafood-oriented meals are served in the dining area, at the poolside or on the sand with the sea lapping gently nearby. Guests will find themselves unwinding at the swimming pool or bar with their sweeping views over the ocean. A range of spa treatments is also on offer for the ultimate in relaxation.

A world of activity is open to those who wish to explore Matemo’s natural treasures with spectacular diving, snorkeling and fishing, as well as a visit to neighboring Ibo Island, which provides a cultural feast with its rich and, sometimes, dark Portuguese and Arab slave trading history.

Rooms and Suites

Matemo Island: Beach Chalet

Beach Chalet

Each chalet is air-conditioned, has large comfortable beds, and all of the little additions that you would expect of a 'resort'-style hotel. You will find a TV with satellite channels, a stocked mini-bar and a hair dryer. In terms of décor, these chalets have rather a strange combination of styles: wooden floors, wooden painted walls and striped curtains make them feel like a luxury beach hut, and yet these are mixed with Persian rugs and Arab light fittings.

Your Destination

Location

Due to its prime location on the East African coast, Mozambique became a significant trading post for gold, ivory and later slaves between the 16th and 19th centuries. Civil war followed the end of Portuguese rule in 1975, but since 1992 the Mozambican government has set about transforming the country into a modern economy. Now a stable democracy, Mozambique remains little explored and the country's spectacular natural treasures are one of the world's best-kept secrets.
