Winner of the 2011 World Travel Awards as ‘World’s Leading Luxury Lodge’, Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated 14 miles north of Hluhluwe in northern Zululand, South Africa.
The inimitable integration of South Africa’s best climate and rehabilitated and rich bush land has made Thanda home to amazing wildlife and over four hundred bird species. Safaris in open game viewing vehicles are conducted exclusively for Thanda guests on the malaria-free reserve.
Thanda Private Game Reserve offers guests a choice between the opulence of the main game lodge and the rugged refinement of the safari-style tented camp. Both options offer five-star accommodation and service in very private surroundings. Accommodation packages at both the main lodge and tented camp include all meals, game activities and local drinks served on game drives.
The tented camp has been built in colonial safari-style structure best suited for guests who are searching for an authentic safari experience. The five beautifully furnished tents have four-poster beds, en-suite canvas bathrooms and magnificent views of the game reserve. Public facilities include an intimate dining tent, dramatic outdoor boma, stylish outdoor lounge and plunge pool for cool relief on hot summer days.
The main lodge encompasses nine bush villas which offer guests the epitome of self-contained privacy and sheer luxury. Circular in structure and reminiscent of a traditional homestead against a hill, each of the villas boasts a breathtaking view of the surrounding game reserve. Each villa has its own spacious lounge area and master bedroom with an inter-leading fireplace. A thatched outdoor game-viewing deck (sala) and infinity pool offer refreshing solace from the summer heat. Each of the villas has a full en-suite bathroom complete with an enormous oval shaped bath and indoor and outdoor showers. The villas are all equipped with private bomas for an intimate and romantic dining experience.
Thanda’s award-winning wellness center offers treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy and massages using African essential oils in a base of shea butter and the Africology range.

Bush VillasThe nine luxury bush villas at the main lodge have private infinity pools, viewing decks, private salas, lounges, fireplaces and full bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers. The individual bomas at each villa offer guests dining privacy. The public facilities at the main lodge include a lounge, library, dining room, boma, dining deck, wine cellar, fully equipped business center and viewing decks. |

Tented CampThe tented camp is built in colonial safari style, offering an authentic yet luxurious bush experience in fourteen tents. The luxury tents have viewing decks and en-suite canvass bathrooms. Public facilities at the tented camp include a dining tent, a boma area, and a sala consisting of an ‘open-air’ lounge and a splash pool. |

Honeymoon TentThe Honeymoon Tent offers a sophisticated mix of romance, privacy and refined comfort in the heart of the African bush. The Honeymoon Tent features a king-sized bed in a spacious bedroom, and a comfortable separate lounge area for relaxation. The honeymoon tent is air conditioned for comfort against KwaZulu-Natal’s humid summers. A highlight of the tent is the outdoor shower and Jacuzzi which has spectacular panoramic views of the reserve. |
