The Outpost lies in a vast, remote wilderness area in the northernmost part of Kruger National Park. This region, called the Makuleke Region, is bordered to the north by the Limpopo River and Zimbabwe and to the east by Crooks Corner and Mozambique.
Italian born architect Enrico Daffonchio used simple, clean lines and combined elements of steel, concrete and open space. The lodge is built with a contemporary and tasteful design, with the main building connected to 12 stand-alone living spaces along a Zimbabwean teak walkway. A modern bar is the focal point of the main area, leading out onto a deck with a swimming pool.
The area has a rich wildlife and diverse terrain, ranging from fever tree forests to age old Baobabs. Elephant and buffalo herds are common in the area, as well as predators such as leopard and lion. Rhino have also been recently reintroduced into the area.
There are a number of activities offered at The Outpost, allowing guests to explore the area’s wildlife and learn about the local history. Game drives with an experienced guide are offered in the early morning and late afternoon, and guided walks will give you the opportunity to explore regions where the vehicles cannot go.
Guests can visit the Thulamela archeological site, containing an array of historic artifacts.

ChaletThe contemporary design of each chalet makes use of concrete and steel with retractable remote controlled screens which may be opened to offer 180-degree views of the river valley below. The living area of each chalet comprises an outdoor terrace with daybed, indoor lounge and bedroom with king size bed under mosquito netting. The award-winning en-suite bathrooms offer full views of the surrounding bushveld, or can be screened off for privacy. |
