February 07, 2011: Northern Kenya’s Favorite Safari Camp Receives a Facelift

New York, NY (February 2, 2011) – The famed Samburu Intrepids Camp, operated by Heritage Hotels (http://www.heritage-eastafrica.com/), is set to reopen in March 2011 with 11 refurbished tents and public areas.  Following record flood levels in the Samburu region of northern Kenya in May 2010, many camps, including Samburu Intrepids, in Samburu National Reserve, Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves were forced to close to repair the damage.

The luxurious tented lodge will reopen with 11 modern and newly refurbished tents with a private view over the wildlife-rich riverbanks. All tents are large and spacious with palm-thatched roofs and netted screens to allow for the river breeze to keep guests cool. Completely rebuilt, the dining deck has a new look incorporating a blend of ethno-modern décor. Raised on stilts, it provides spectacular views of the river where wildlife can often be seen drinking. A further 17 tents are expected to be completed within the next 45 to 60 days, giving the whole camp a fresh, new look.

For families traveling with children and needing space, there are three beautifully styled family tents with ethno-African and modern pieces of art. The family tents consist of an ensemble of two tents with a spacious lounge connecting the sleeping quarters and a wide deck complete with lounging chairs and table, making for an intimate and comfortable option for family groups on safari. “After an extensive soft refurbishment of 11 tents and the transformation of the common areas, Samburu Intrepids will officially re-open its doors in March 2011,” explains George Kariuki, Director of Marketing for Heritage Hotels. “We were unfortunately impacted quite severely by the record floods earlier this year; however, we took this as an opportunity to make some significant improvements and additions to this popular camp. We look forward to getting “back to business” for the 2011 season”
