July 31, 2011: SAA Withdraws Botswana Service
Effective August 7, SAA will terminate its regional operations between South Africa and Botswana.
This follows the airline’s announcement that it will launch new operations to Bujumbura (Burundi), Kigali (Rwanda) and Cotonou (Benin) from October 31 and will continue to serve 20 African destinations.
The airline has confirmed that SA Express, which also operates between Johannesburg and Gaborone, will increase its frequency with a smaller gauge aircraft and SAA will withdraw from the route from August 7. SA Express will increase its frequency with a smaller gauge aircraft.
Other changes SAA made to its route network earlier in the year include increased frequencies to Entebbe, Uganda from March (from six to daily flights) with the introduction of a new Tuesday service. An additional flight on Tuesdays to Harare, Zimbabwe, was added, bringing the total number of frequencies to 18 per week. Larger aircraft are now also operating on certain flights to Nairobi and Windhoek .
