This eight day safari highlights the best of Uganda including Lake Mburo National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

You will have the opportunity to see hippo, Cape buffalo, Uganda kob, elephant, giraffe, water buffalo and many birds species. Traverse some stunning landscape - green rolling hills, snowcapped mountains, rainforests, majestic rivers and massive lakes. To crown it all, you go tracking the elusive and rare mountain gorillas, as well as chimpanzees. This itinerary combines experiences that are unique to Uganda.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Entebbe

Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the Lake Victoria Hotel where you spend the night. If you arrive in the morning, then you will enjoy an afternoon excursion to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Overnight: Lake Victoria Hotel

Day 2 - Entebbe - Lake Mburo National Park

Head south-west to Lake Mburo National park, approx 5-hours drive. Arrive around lunchtime at Lake Mburo for your overnight stay. Lake Mburo is home to many different animal species, including zebra, eland, and impala, who are not found in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive or boat trip on the lake, or you may choose to enjoy a walking safari with the local guide. Overnight: Mantana Tented Camp.

Day 3 - Lake Mburo National Park - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, continue west through an area often referred to the Little Switzerland of Africa, to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Spend the next three nights at the Buhoma Lodge. (We may travel to Rwanda should there be no gorilla tracking permits available in Uganda). Overnight: Buhoma Lodge.

Day 4 - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast you will be escorted to the National Parks headquarters to meet your guides for the day for your gorilla tracking experience. An early morning trek into the forest on the slopes of the volcanoes, led by experienced trackers will bring you amongst a family of Mountain Gorillas. These massive primates are extremely rare, only approximately 650-700 remaining. Overnight: Buhoma Lodge.

Day 5 - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today you may enjoy a community walk which will include some curio shopping, visiting the Batwa pygmy tribes, the local orphanage and school. Or, enjoy an early morning forest walk to look for the local birdlife and other forest species found at Bwindi. Overnight: Buhoma Lodge.

Day 6 - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today we enjoy a short drive (2-3 hours) to the southern part of the Queen Elizabeth National Park to the Ishasha sector. Enjoy the next two nights at Ishasha Wilderness Camp – a luxury tented camp nestled under trees alongside a river. Overnight: Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Day 7 - Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today, apart from enjoy game drives, you will also be able to take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel – where you will often see hippos, buffalo and a large array of water birds. It is also possible to visit the Maramagambo Forest, for a short walk, and to visit the bat caves in the area – home to a rather large python! Nearby Chamburu Gorge offers chimpanzee tracking which is generally a morning’s activity – and should ideally be booked in advance. Overnight: Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Day 8 - Tour Concludes (B)

Return to Entebbe, via the equator and the busy city of Kampala, stopping en route to shop for curios and at the Royal Drum makers at Mpigi. Arrive late this afternoon.
