Day 1 - Johannesburg - Tuli Block, Botswana (L,D)
An early morning departure from Johannesburg takes you via Pretoria, Potgietersrus and through the Limpopo Province into Botswana via the the Platjan border post. Set up camp at Limpopo River Lodge, set in the area known as the Tuli Block. This thin strip of land in the south-east of Botswana, borders Zimbabwe to the north and South Africa to the south. It is one of the few areas of commercial farmland as it receives more rain than the rest of Botswana. The land in the extreme east is where the game reserves have been established with huge herds of elephants and hundreds of colorful birds. Head off for a game drive either in the evening of day 1 or the next morning, depending on the time of arrival. We will enjoy our evening meal prepared by our guide around the campfire before spending our first night in the African wilderness.
Day 2 - Tuli Block - Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Botswana (B,L,D)
Today visit The Khama Rhino Sanctuary Trust, a community based wildlife project, established in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing white rhino, restore an area formerly teeming with wildlife to its previous natural state and provide economic benefits to the local Batswana community through tourism and the sustainable use of natural resources. We explore the sanctuary on an afternoon game drive in search of White Rhinos.
Day 3 - Khama Rhino Sanctuary to Kubu Island, Botsawna (B,L,D)
Travel to Kubu Island, a dry granite rock island located in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park area of Botswana. The name Kubu means hippopotamus in Tswana. It forms the shape of a crescent, and its slopes are covered with fossil beaches of wave-rounded pebbles, providing evidence of the prehistoric lake's former water levels. Crowned with an array of ancient baobabs and surrounded on three sides by a vast emptiness, Kubu has a unique beauty. The island is located a few kilometers away from Orapa and Letlhakane mining towns, is a national monument, and is held sacred by the indigenous people.
Day 4 - Kubu Island to Maun, Botswana (B,L,D)
This morning you head off for Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. The name Maun is derived from the San word “maung”, which means “the place of short reeds”. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure, either relaxing next to the pool at the lodge or if you are keen for some excitement, why not book a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta.
Day 6 - Khwai River, Botswana (B,L,D)
Spend game driving in the Khwai area. In our open 4x4 vehicle we will explore the Khwai River region on a morning and afternoon game drive hopefully spotting a variety of game that frequent this region. Khwai is renowned for its large concentrations of mammals and it is not unusual to see many different types of wildlife during just one game drive. As a year round destination for wildlife, predators can regularly be seen in the area, rated as one of the most prolific in Botswana for viewing wildlife. The exceptional location of Khwai makes it a regular host to Elephant, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dogs. Birdlife can also be viewed in abundance with exceptional sightings of wildfowl and raptors.
Day 7 - Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana (B,L,D)
After having explored the Khwai area head into the famous Moremi Game Reserve known as one of the most beautiful and varied reserves in Africa with an unprecedented concentration of wildlife. The full day is spent in the unspoiled nature of the Moremi Game Reserve which is home to a great diversity of plant and animal life - making it a ‘must see' for a Botswana Safari. It contains - within its boundaries - approximately 20% of the Delta, and a vast range of habitats, acacia forests, floodplains, reed beds, lagoons, enduring wetland through mopane forest and dry savanna woodland.
Day 8 - Khwai River to Savuti, Botswana (B,L,D)
An early departure from the camp in Khwai River and transit through the national parks of Botswana to Savuti Game Reserve, which forms part of the Chobe National Park. Savuti is often described as the best wildlife-viewing area in all of Africa as it boasts one of the highest concentrations of safari wildlife - where all of the major species can be seen: giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, eland and more. The bird life is diverse and thus photograph opportunities abound. Savuti is known for its many predators, including lion, spotted hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, wild dog and even cheetah.
Day 9 & 10 - Chobe National Park, Botswana (B,L,D)
The following two days are spent in Kasane, the gateway to the Chobe National Park. Enjoy a sunset cruise on the Chobe River on the first afternoon from where we can watch elephants, hippos, crocodiles and a variety of birds without having to reach for our binoculars – you’ll be near enough for close-up photographs, as well as having the chance to witness a spectacular African Sunset.
