The focus of this itinerary is the amazing contrast to be found in this wonderful country – the red dunes and pale pans of the Namib Desert, the rocky outcrops and elephants of Damaraland and the oasis of the Kunene River surrounded by mountains and plains. Add to this the solitude, the desert-adapted wildlife, visiting the Himba people – one of the last true nomads in Africa - and the wide open spaces, and you will experience a journey that is truly distinctive.

This safari has another wondrous facet – observing Namibia from the air. Namibia is also the epitome of open space with our concessions offering an incredible 74,700 acres per guest! The route takes you over the Namib, the oldest desert in the world; along the cool Atlantic coast and across some of the remotest wilderness areas in Africa.

Itinerary

Day 1 - 2 Windhoek - Sossusvlei

Depart from Windhoek to spend two nights exploring Sossusvlei, staying in Kulala Wilderness Reserve, which provides convenient access to the splendor of the towering red dunes of the Namib. Activities at Little Kulala start with morning guided game drives to the spectacular dunes of Sossusvlei, maximizing photographic opportunities and scenic grandeur.

Day 3 - 4 Northern Damaraland

Scenic three-hour flight over the Namib Desert for a different view of the desert and the Skeleton Coast’s spectacular topography, before deviating inland to northern Damaraland for two nights. We leave the sandy dunes and make our way to an ancient rock-strewn landscape, of a previous glacial era. See the famous desert-adapted elephants.

Day 5 - 6 Serra Cafema

Fly by light aircraft to the vast Marienfluss Conservancy in the extreme north-west of Namibia for a two-night stay at Serra Cafema Camp. Serra Cafema is one of the most remote and surreal destinations in Africa – the Kunene River a rejuvenating band of green surrounded by a lunar-like landscape of the Namib and the Cafema mountain range to the north.
