With the Maputaland Marine Reserve just offshore and the beach a brisk 20-minute walk from the camp, there are world-class diving and snorkelling, remote, unspoilt beaches and other beach adventures to be had.

The camp consists of 17 rooms all of which with en-suite bathrooms, open-feel indoor shower and overhead fans. Seven of these are family units with a shared bathroom and two bedrooms for two adults and two children. A honeymoon unit has wonderful views over the ocean and dune forest.

Rocktail Beach Camp also has a central dining room, bar and lounge with large wrap-around veranda. A raised viewing deck just off the veranda has wide views that extend out to the ocean. The camp’s main area has a wine cellar, large pool, curio shop and children’s playroom, complete with board games and other fun activities for families.

From a scuba diving perspective, Rocktail Bay is unique. Not only is the diving conducted within a Reserve and World Heritage Site along unspoiled reefs, but divers have the luxury of knowing that they alone have access to these sites and are the only underwater visitors along this stretch of the coastline.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Johannesburg

On arrival back in Johannesburg you will be met by our representative, who will assist you to the shuttle for your hotel overnight. D’Oreale Grande Hotel is part of Emperor’s Palace, South Africa’s premier casino resort destination. The hotel is located only five minutes from Oliver Tambo International Airport and complimentary shuttle transfers are offered to and from the airport. This five-star hotel offers luxurious accommodation in palatial-style buildings surrounded by beautiful gardens, fountains and statues. All rooms have a bathroom en suite and include 24-hour room service, fully adjustable air-conditioning, an interactive PAY-TV, M-Net and selected DSTV channels, radio, a personal keypad safe and hairdryer. Within every room is a writing desk with a Business Panel comprising standard electronic connections used worldwide and a modem connection for PC or fax machines. A health and beauty spa is available, as are tennis courts and a swimming pool. A number of cocktail bars allow guests to relax and enjoy the gardens and surroundings. Day 2 - Johannesburg - Richards Bay

This morning after check out you will make your way back to the airport for your scheduled flight to Richards Bay. On arrival in Richards Bay you will be collected for your private road transfer from the airport to Rocktail Beach Camp where you spend the next three nights. Rocktail Beach Camp is situated at Manzengwenya in the northern reaches of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site situated on the coast in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Just offshore from the camp is the Maputaland Marine Reserve which provides a sanctuary for its prolific marine life and spectacular coral landscape. This underwater experience allows for world-class diving that is considered amongst the finest in the world, while also providing extraordinary snorkeling encounters with huge shoals of fish, dolphins, turtles and whales. With access to nearly 25 miles of quiet, unspoiled sandy beaches, the camp offers one of the best diving and beach experiences in South Africa. Rocktail Beach Camp lies within the coastal forest, 2,295 feet inland from the warm Indian Ocean. Its 17 en-suite chalets with private verandas are tucked away in the indigenous forest. The main area of the camp offers an inviting lounge, dining room and bar, as well as a wonderful wooden deck and pool area, where meals can be enjoyed outside. A small curio shop is available as well as a childrens room where our younger guests can enjoy the games provided. Guests can relax on loungers around the pool, on the beach, or participate in one of the many activities on offer. A fully accredited dive center provides scuba diving, including dive courses and snorkeling activities offshore. Other activities, some of which incur an extra cost, include surf fishing, quad-biking, birding and horse-riding as well as guided drives to various sites and the surrounding community in the area. Walks through the coastal forest or along the beach and swimming in the Indian Ocean are all part of the experience. During the summer months Rocktail Beach Camp is integrally involved in ongoing turtle research. Guests are able to accompany the resident turtle expert on research drives at low tide at night helping to monitor the turtles’ nesting numbers and behavior. Accommodation: Rocktail Beach Camp
