Everybody loves a break at the beach, especially when it comes after time in the desert! This fun Jordan itinerary includes time in Aqaba, a Jordanian port city on the Red Sea. Inhabited since 4000 B.C., Aqaba is home to the Islamic-era Aqaba Fort, so historians will also have something to explore. Aqaba’s beach resorts are popular for windsurfing and other water sports, and the area is a top destination for snorkelers and scuba divers, with notable dive sites including the Yamanieh coral reef in the Aqaba Marine Park, south of the city.

Jordan’s ancient highlights are included on this itinerary making it the perfect blend of discovery and good times.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Amman

On arrival in Amman, you will be transferred to your accommodation for tonight. Rest of day at leisure.

Day 2: Amman; Jerash; Ajloun

Enjoy a city tour of the museums, the Citadel, the amphitheater, the souks and the modern part of Amman. Drive to the best preserved example of Roman civilization, the city of Jerash, the 'Pompeii of the East'. Proceed to the 12 century Saracen castle at Ajloun. In the late afternoon, return to Ajloun Cabins for overnight. (B,D)

Day 3: Madaba; Mt Nebo

Depart Ajloun to visit Madaba, the mosaic city, where the oldest map of the Holy Land exists on the floor of Saint George’s Church. After Madaba, a short drive will bring you to Mt. Nebo, the burial site of Moses overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Here Franciscans have built a structure that protects a 4th and 6th Century Byzantine churchand then you will transfer to Rummana Camp for overnight. (B,D)

Day 4: Petra

Depart on a full day tour of Petra. After passing tombs which are located outside the city, pass through the SIQ, an immense crack in the Nubian sandstone, a winding, half-mile-long fissure between overhanging cliffs that seem to meet more than 300 feet overhead. Arrive at el Khazneh - The Treasury. This is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, carved out of the solid rock from the side of the mountain, is nearly 140 feet high and 90 feet wide. Explore Petra's rock-hewn structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a carved Roman theater, large and small houses, burial chambers and more. Overnight Petra hotel. (B)

Day 5: Wadi Rum

Free morning to relax or further explore Petra independently. Head to the magical desert of Wadi Rum. Upon arrival, guests will take of the jeeps owned by the local Bedouins for a sunset trip into many sites in the moon-like landscaped desert. The tour will take the guests to visit less touristic places such as the natural rock bridge of Um Fruth. Transfer to your desert camp as the sun sets in Wadi Rum and witness the changes in the color of the rock and sand as they turn a deep red color. Bedouin guides prepare the fire and dinner, and display their legendary hospitality. Once the night a fully arrives the stars come out in a memorable display. (B,D)

Day 6: Aqaba

Visit Aqaba, a Jordanian coastal city situated at the northeastern tip of the Red Sea. Aqaba is Jordan's only coastal city and one of the major tourist attractions in Jordan, famous for its warm water and rich marine life. It is best known today as a seaside and diving resort. You will take a glass bottom boat and enjoy swimming or snorkeling. Overnight Aqaba. (B)

Day 7: Dead Sea

Proceed to the Dead Sea Museum, a panoramic lookout and museum on a steep cliff high above the Dead Sea. The museum has fascinating information about the geology, ecology (animal and plant), archaeology, history and industry of the Dead Sea. Transfer to the Dead Sea, and enjoy time at leisure to bathe or take a spa treatment. Overnight Dead Sea hotel. (B)

Day 8: Depart

Transfer to the airport for departure. (B)
