Biblical and Historic Jordan is jam-packed with visits that appeal to travelers with a particular interest in ancient times. Each day reveals more about the long and sacred history of this amazing nation.
The itinerary includes three, 2 night stays which lends an easy pace, even though each day is full of local exploration.  All of Jordan’s regular destination highlights are included, but special emphasis is given to places of significant biblical and/or historic interest. As this is a private tour, timings at sites can be increased or decreased as travelers prefer, the guide will discuss options with individual travelers to optimize the experience.
This itinerary is a magnificent learning journey for everyone.

Itinerary

Historic and Biblical Jordan

Day 1: Arrive Amman

You will arrival at Amman airport and meet with Africa Answers representative at the airport; you will transfer to your hotel in Madaba for overnight.

Day 2: Bethany

Visit Bethany; for Christians, the most significant event associated with the River Jordan is undoubtedly the baptism of Jesus Christ. This took place very close to Beit 'Abara, where Joshua, Elijah and Elisha crossed the river. In New Testament times, it became known as Bethany, the village of John the Baptist. Continue to Amman to visit King Abdulla Mosque, built between 1982 and 1989. Transfer back to Amman hotel. (B)

Day 3: Jerash; Anjara, Un Qais; Pella

Visit the city of Jerash - one of the ten big Roman cities, the Pompeii of the East. The city features theaters, churches, temples (Zeus and Artemis), a Nymphaeum and colonnaded streets. Proceed to Anjara where it is believed that Jesus Christ, his disciples and Mary rested in a cave during a journey between Jerusalem and Galilee. Continue to Gadara which commands a magnificent view over the northern Jordan Valley, the Sea of Galilee (Lake Tiberias), the Yarmouk River gorge and the Golan Heights. Then to Pella, where the visible structures date from the Roman, Byzantine and Islamic periods (2nd to 14th Centuries A.D.) and there is ample evidence of human occupation during the earlier Hellenistic, Persian, Iron, Bronze, Chalcolithic, Neolithic and Paleolithic periods. Return to Amman hotel. (B)

Day 4: Um Al Rasas; Kerak; Wadi Mujib; Petra

Transfer to UNESCO World Heritage Site Um Al Rasas, which contains ruins from the Roman, Byzantine, and early Muslim civilizations and the mosaic floor of the Church of St Stephen from 785. The perfectly preserved mosaic floor is the largest one in Jordan. Then continue to Kerak, this 12th Century hill top fortress features galleries, towers, chapels and ramparts that recall the gallantry of the Crusaders themselves. Then on to Petra for check in at your hotel for overnight. (B)

Day 5: Petra

Full day tour of Petra! Once the ancient Nabatean capital, this city has a lot to tell. The visit passes the SIQ, an immense crack in the Nubian sandstone, a winding, half-mile long fissure between overhanging cliffs that leads to Petra’s most impressive monument, el Khazneh - The Treasury. This is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, carved out of the solid rock from the side of the mountain, is nearly 140 feet high and 90 feet wide. Beyond el Khazneh the visitor is surrounded on both sides by hundreds of Petra’s carved and built structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a carved Roman theater, large and small houses, burial chambers and more. Overnight Petra hotel. (B)

Day 6: Wadi Fynan; Feynan Eco-Lodge

Depart to Wadi Fynan and Feynan Ecolodge, constructed in 2005 by renowned architect Ammar Khammash at the western edge of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. Before the lodge was built, the land was utilized as a campsite by archaeologists conducting studies and digs in the area. The lodge offers travelers an unparalleled opportunity to experience Jordan’s wilderness, meet its native people and explore its ancient history, with minimal impact on the environment. Overnight at Fynan Eco-lodge. (B,D)

Day 7: Lot's Cave; Volunteer opportunity; Dead Sea Museum

Visit The Dead Sea Museum and Panoramic Complex, set on a steep cliff high above the Dead Sea with a magnificent view of the Dead Sea. Continue to Lot’s Cave just past the Lisan Peninsula, where he and his daughters fled after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot’s wife famously turned into a pillar of salt after looking back at the smouldering city. Proceed to Zikra Volunteer, an incomparable rural experience about the Dead Sea community. Then back to your hotel at Dead Sea for overnight. (B)

Day 8: Madaba, Mt Nebo; Dead Sea

Visit Madaba the mosaic city of Madaba, where the oldest map of the Holy Land exists on the floor of Saint George’s Church. After Madaba, a short drive will bring you to Mt. Nebo, the alleged burial site of Moses overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Here Franciscans have built a structure that protects a 4th and 6th Century Byzantine church. Back to your hotel at Dead Sea for overnight. (B)

Day 9: Depart

You will transfer to Amman airport for departure. (B)
